Hey friends! :)

Hey y'all! My name is Meredith Davis and I am about to be a senior at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, which is located in Belton, Texas. I am an Elementary Education major with a minor in Spanish...and I am hoping to extend my teaching to the Dominican Republic long-term! :)

I love painting and being artsy, but my TRUE passion is running. I'm currently in training right now for a marathon in November...and my goal is to eventually qualify for the Boston Marathon!

I am so excited for this summer! It stinks that I will be coming in two weeks late (have to take a summer class!)...but I am beyond stoked to spend four weeks with you guys and the precious kids we will be serving. I have been to the DR once, November 2010, and fell in love with it. My whole life changed after that trip...and I have never felt more at peace about returning. The Lord is SO good! :)

Can't wait to meet everyone!

Hi All!

Hi Guys!! I am so excited to meet you all and to get to spend the summer with you having the adventure of our lives!!
My name is Elise and I am senior at the University of Wyoming, I will be graduating in December with a Communication degree and a Psychology minor.  I have lived in Wyoming my entire life, so yes I am a small town country girl!  I have been to the Dominican Republic twice in high school on short term mission trips with my family.  While there we were at Jarabacoa, working at The Ark and Palo Blanco.  I always have a sponsor child who lives in Jarabacoa named Ana.  I am soo excited to get to go back to the D.R. I have missed it and the people so much! For those of you that have never been before, be prepared to fall in love with it and to have your life changed. I am looking forward to seeing how God works in all of our lives, and I will be praying for each and everyone of you as we prepare for our trip this summer and I look forward to getting to know you all.

Elise

¡Buenos días, y feliz lunes!

¡Buenos días!

I wanted to share one of my favorite Spanish worship songs with you all this Monday morning. Hope you have a blessed and joy-filled Monday, wherever you are and whatever you are doing!

Bendiciones a todos!

It's so wonderful reading all of your posts! I can't wait to actually put faces to these incredible stories. I love to hear the different passions that God has placed on your hearts, and I'm excited to see those passions translated into our ministry this summer :)

My name is Em, and I am just finishing my first year at Lee University in Cleveland, TN. I'm from Indiana, so I'm definitely a small-town Midwestern girl. I'm double majoring in Spanish and Psychology with a minor in Intercultural Studies. My heart has always been for the little ones, but as of now I am unsure how this will manifest in my eventual career. I'm up for whatever the Lord has for me! Don't be deceived--though  I am a Spanish major, I am not entirely fluent. Not even close. I do hope to be some day, and I'm really excited to be in an environment this summer where I can practice speaking the beautiful language!

Other than hanging out with the kiddos, my passions consist of music, writing, and studying. I play guitar, a bit of piano, and sing. I've had the opportunity of leading worship for my high school youth group and co-leading the worship at my current Hispanic church. By the way, I'm not Hispanic. I'm the only white girl in the church. It's definitely a unique dynamic. But, because of this opportunity I've been able to learn Spanish worship songs that I would love to teach you all! I pursue writing through leisurely endeavors, such as journaling and blogging, and through academic pursuits by pouring myself into the papers I write for class. And, as far as general academia goes, I absolutely love to read and engage in compelling conversations. There is so much to discover about this world, and I love reading about and listening to others' perspectives on reality.

I've never been to the Dominican Republic before, but I have been to Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, and Mexico on mission trips in the past. These trips inspired my heart for missions, and I'm sure, as most of you can attest for your own experiences, that I could spend hours talking about the people I've met and the situations I've experienced on these trips that changed my perspective on life and on faith.

I'm so excited to meet you all. I will be keeping you in my prayers. May the Lord prepare each of you for this awesome experience ahead of us. May his providence and faithfulness manifest itself fully in your preparations, and may his loving mercy and restoration guide your hearts and minds into the likeness of Christ!

Hello, friends. :)

Hello, friends!

My name is Abby, and I am a rising junior at The College of Wooster ( a small liberal arts school in northeast Ohio) studying Early Childhood Education and Religious Studies. I am originally from the Dayton, Ohio area, and I will be turning the big 2-1 the day we leave for the DR, actually! :) It will be quite an exciting birthday, since I will be meeting you all for the first time!

I had the opportunity to go the DR twice before through missions trips with my high school. God planted a love of the Dominican in my heart, and I am so so so SO excited to be able to return, something I wasn't sure was going to ever happen! While I was there, I was able to work at El Arca in Jarabacoa and at Palo Blanco. When I begin to think about options for my summer, my dad actually reminded me of Kids Alive, though I had visited their website from time to time.

I am just really excited to meet you all and make some beautiful new friends, and to see if this is something I can see myself doing in the future. :)

Hmm. Other things about myself... I really enjoy smiling, and laughing is a close second. :)  My absolute FAVORITE drink is actually one I discovered in the DR, chinola (passionfruit juice). SO yummy! I think lumberjacks are pretty cool, and I was once married to one of my best guy friends for a year... in both of our high school drama productions for the year. (Gotcha!) My two favorite colors would have to be kelly green and canary yellow. And I really enjoy cooked carrots. They're kinda delicious.

But what about you people? I am excited to get to know your hearts as well, even if over the Internet. :)

Excited to meet you all,
Abby

Hey Everyone

My name is Ariel, and I am from Georgia. I am currently 19 yrs old and will be going into my 3rd of college at Emory University in Atlanta, where I am studying psychology. I am super excited for this summer. I have never done any mission trips nor have I been to the Dominican Republic. My grandparents worked in the Dominican Republic about 20 yrs ago. Some of the people they worked with down there and still keep in contact with now work for Kids Alive so that's how I heard and got to know more about Kids Alive. I am happy to get to know everyone over the coming weeks and months.

Happy Easter

Hey everybody!
I hope everyone had a good Easter. I thought I would introduce myself...so my name is Bethany, I am a recent graduate of Northern Illinois University, which is about an hour and a half outside of Chicago. My degree is in secondary math education, so technically I am a math teacher although I don't have a job yet, so right now I'm just a substitute teacher. I've been a part of the intern program with Kids Alive multiple times now, and I absolutely love it. It's a great experience one in which God has really strengthened my faith and given me a love for the people of the Dominican Republic. I'm really excited to meet you all and see what God has for us this summer.

And So It Begins

While preparing for this summer, I find myself experiencing so many different emotions. I am excited, scared, joyful, nervous, anxious, and humbled. I have never been away from my friends and family for more than a few days at a time. Yet, there is a peace on my inside that I have never felt before. It seems like the closer summer gets, the more separated I feel from everyone and everything. God has honestly been drawing me closer to Him and doing so many things in my heart.
My parents are still having a hard time letting me go. My mom actually said, "what if this organization is a scam and they are really gonna sell you into that sex trafficking thing." haha. More than I pray for myself on this trip I pray for my parents to understand why I am doing this internship. They constantly worry about me and my siblings so they need some extreme peace right now.
One verse I have really stood on throughout my life is Philippians 4:6-7 which says to not worry about anything, but instead pray about everything and when we do that, God will surround our hearts with an incredible heavenly peace. Sometimes I have to remind myself that I serve an amazing God who wants to help me take care of things while I am doing His work. If I stop worrying so much and I just let Him know that I am kinda stressed and going crazy, He always got my back. That's all..

Welcome 2012 DR Summer Interns

WELCOME! to our blog for 2012 Dominican Republic summer interns!! I hope everyone is having a great Monday and enjoyed their weekend. I hope you all are getting super excited for this summer as I know I am!! I have created this blog so that we can get to know one another and stay in communication through our preparations for this summer. You are more than welcome to start a discussion/post on here or respond/comment to anyone else. I am VERY new to the world of blogging so please forgive me if I make a mistake a long the way. I am always open to suggestions. Each intern has been invited to join the blog and can create their own google account with information and a photo. I really hope to see all of you take advantage of this blog and get to know one another since you will be spending 6 weeks together serving in the Dominican Republic this summer. Thanks again for everyone's work thus far and please don't be shy!

Blessings,
Cambria
